Important information for visiting Crownland Cemetery

We pride ourselves on maintaining a peaceful and respectful environment at Crownland Cemetery for all visitors and to honor those laid to rest here. To ensure a smooth and harmonious experience for everyone, please familiarize yourself with our key rules and guidelines. Your cooperation helps us preserve the beauty and sanctity of our grounds.

CROWNLAND CEMETERY RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. The Superintendent is to see that all rules are observed.
  2. All memorials and decorations must be placed in the appropriate two-foot by three and one-half (2 x 3 1/2 ) foot area, or two (2) four by seven (4 x 7) foot area for two (2) graves.
  3. The marking on lots or burial spaces is limited to granite, marble, limestone or bronze memorials. All foundations shall be concrete and installed by cemetery personnel.
  4. *Crownland Cemetery is not responsible for the maintenance and repair of foundations and headstones
  5. All flowers and plants shall be in urns or vases on regulated concrete foundations. No other planting, digging, or decorations are allowed.
  6. The Cemetery is not responsible for any flowers, decorations or containers placed at any interment location.
  7. NO GLASS, plastic or paper vases are allowed. No glass of any kind!
  8. Winter decorations (holly, evergreen or wreaths) may be placed upon graves from November 1 - March 1. If any are to be kept for future use, they must be removed by March 1.
  9. All other decorations may be placed upon cemetery installed foundations from March 1 - November 1. If any are to be kept for future use, they must be removed by November 1.
  10. No mulch, decorative rock, bricks or other borders can be placed around concrete foundation.
  11. Decorations must be placed on the concrete foundation and can be no more than 48 inches in height. *NO GLASS of any kind*
  12. Shepherd poles or other decorative poles are not allowed.
  13. All burials shall be under the general supervision of the Cemetery.
  14. No burials shall be permitted unless a completed Indiana Burial Permit is submitted.
  15. All charges for cemetery burials must be paid on or before the day of the burial.
  16. The Cemetery reserves the right to require not less than 24 hour notice before any interment.
  17. There is a maximum limit of three (3) cremations to be buried on each burial plot.
  18. The casket or urn of all interments shall be enclosed in a vault or re-enforced concrete box.
  19. If the owner wishes the Cemetery to sell their plots for them, they will not be paid more than what they purchased the plot for. The Cemetery will collect and keep any excess money paid for the lot(s).
  20. No sale or conveyance of exclusive burial rights shall be binding on the Cemetery, until properly entered in the records of the Cemetery.
  21. Peace officers’ powers, as provided in Section 23, Revised General Cemetery Act of the State of Indiana, are granted to the Cemetery Superintendent to enforce all rules and regulations.
  22. Any person requesting to trade the space they own in Crownland Cemetery to another area inside the Cemetery may do so, providing the balance is paid in full prior to a deed being issued for the new space.
  23. Saturday, and Holiday burials are allowed, at an additional charge of $500.00.
  24. The Association will not be held responsible for any accidents or injuries while on the cemetery property
  25. The cemetery grounds are closed to the public from dusk to dawn.
  26. NO PETS ALLOWED.
  27. Per Rules of The Veterans Administration. NO Flowers or Decorations are allowed on Veterans Graves, in the Veterans section.
  28. No decorations of any kind in Baby Land.

Who has the final say on what can be placed on a grave or foundation?

The owners of the grave have the final say on what can be placed on the foundation or grave, within the established cemetery guidelines. Please note that nothing is to be placed in the grass.

Is Crownland Cemetery responsible for headstones?

No, Crownland Cemetery is not responsible for the headstones. Please refer to your agreement or contact the headstone provider for any concerns related to headstones.

Are there any restrictions on what can be placed on the grave site?

Yes, to maintain the grounds and ensure safety, we ask that nothing be placed directly on the grass, especially between March 1st and November 1st. Please avoid glass items at all times.

What are your operating hours?

The grounds of Crownland Cemetery are open during daylight hours. For the safety of everyone, the grounds are closed after dark. Office hours are 9-1 M-F
